Throwing Smoke Update

Here is where we take time to update some of our older stories and also post ones that may have slipped on by while we were enjoying summer:

------------------------

After the Dolphins released recently tasered DT Fred Evans, the Vikings are giving him a 2nd chance in the NFL by signing him to a 2 year deal. I'm not sure why Miami gave up on this talent so early. Don’t they know the old adage of how lighting won’t strike the same DT twice?

------------------------

Authorities charged four men in connection with the armed robberies of the Knicks' Eddy Curry and the Heat's Antoine Walker in their Chicago area homes last month. Unfortunately we won’t see the day when MJ’s smug arrogance is pistol whipped off his face.

------------------------

Sam Cassell – Still ugly

------------------------

Punter Mitch Cozad, who was so obsessed with becoming Northern Colorado's starting punter that he plunged a five-inch-long knife into his rival's kicking leg, was convicted of second-degree assault, but acquitted of attempted first-degree murder. He now faces up to 16 years in a Colorado prison. At least Cozads kicking talent will come in handy when he has to remove the two front teeth of his cellmate Kobe to get some action.

-------------------------

Chad Johnson has gotten his sex back.

-------------------------

In other athlete/Hollywood news, New York Islander forward Mike Comrie is still dating Hillary Duff. If Comrie thought it was tough to score on Martin Brodeur, wait until he tries to score one between Duff’s legs.

-------------------------

Kia Vaughn, a member of the Rutgers women's basketball team sued Don Imus and CBS this month claiming the radio personality's comment about the Rutger's women's basketball players being "nappy-headed hoes" on his nationally syndicated radio program in April, damaged her reputation. This is the same day Imus settled his contract with CBS Radio that will allow him to make a comeback bid at a new station. Only in America would Imus be given a second chance after making blatantly racist comments. And maybe Germany.

--------------------------

Former referee Tim Donaghy pleaded guilty to two felony charges last week in the NBA betting scandal that rocked the league and raised questions about the integrity of games. Donaghy faces a maximum of 25 years in prison when he is sentenced for conspiracy to engage in wire fraud and transmitting wagering information through interstate commerce. Donaghy provided recommendations, called "picks," to co-conspirators about what team they should bet on, said U.S. District Court Judge Carol Bagley Amon. He also must pay a US$500,000 fine and at least $30,000 in restitution. The sodomy he experiences in jail will be nothing compared to what the mob has in store for him when he gets out.

--------------------------

Yi Jianlian the sixth overall selection in the NBA draft in June, signed a standard rookie scale contract with the Bucks in Hong Kong on Wednesday. This signing comes after months of speculation on whether or not he would sign with the team who drafted him. A contingent of Bucks officials that included owner and Sen. Herb Kohl met with Yi's family and Chen Haitao, owner of Yi's Chinese professional team, over the last day to finalize the deal. In unconfirmed news, animal control authorities are predicting a drastic reduction in Milwaukee's stray cat population.
